Course Description
From Research to Revenue: Product-Market Fit Across Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 1–9 is a practical, industry-aligned training designed for early-stage deep-tech innovators who want to turn scientific discoveries into scalable market solutions.
The course is aimed at learners, including researchers, university students, engineers, early-stage founders, intrapreneurs, and future innovators exploring deep-tech venture creation.
The course helps learners understand why deep-tech commercialization is fundamentally different from software or traditional entrepreneurship.
Hardware, materials, biotech, and sustainability innovations must validate both the technology and the market in parallel.
Through a clear step-by-step framework, learners will gain the essential knowledge and skills needed to navigate the journey from TRL 1 (initial research) to TRL 9 (market-ready deployment).
Learners will develop key skills in:
• identifying urgent user needs
• validating problem–solution fit in scientific and engineering contexts
• designing prototypes and pilots
• understanding industrial and regulatory pathways
• evaluating cost structures, payback periods, and gross margin (GM%)
• designing go-to-market pathways for deep-tech ventures
• communicating with investors, research labs, and industry partners
The course covers ten modules delivered through short, focused video lessons, interactive tools, templates, and practical exercises.
Modules include: TRL mapping, scientific discovery translation, prototype development, pilot design, intellectual property (IP) strategy, including patents, prior-art search, and freedom-to-operate basics, regulatory readiness, industrialization, funding pathways, and the deep-tech product-market fit (PMF) framework.
Learners will complete a series of hands-on assignments using the PMF Canvas, Customer Evolution Map, TRL tracker, and pilot-planning tools.
Assessment is based on module quizzes and a final project in which learners map their technology across the TRL staircase and outline a realistic path toward market adoption.
The course is delivered online, self-paced, and free of charge. It requires approximately 54 hours to complete over four weeks.
A Certificate of Achievement and a digital badge are provided to learners who complete all modules and submit the final PMF-TRL project.
This course equips learners with practical, transferable deep-tech innovation skills and a clear roadmap for taking any idea from insight to real-world deployment.
