Training in Deep Tech: Best practices to build tomorrow’s talent

The Deep Tech Talent Initiative is a pioneering programme to skill one million people within deep tech over the next three years.  

The EIT and its Innovation Communities are organising the first EIT Deep Tech Talent Prize Ceremony, which will take place on 23 November in Barcelona, Spain.   

The Deep Tech Talent Training Prize honors and recognizes organizations, including training providers, universities and industry partners, for their exceptional contributions in one of two award categories: Partner Training and Targeted Training.  

The prize award ceremony includes a keynote address and panel discussion on best practices in deep tech education and provides ample opportunities for all participants of the event to build connections to the Deep Tech Talent Initiative.

Prof. Petia RADEVA

University of Barcelona

Prof. Petia Radeva is a Full professor at the University of Barcelona (UB), Head of the Consolidated Research Group “Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Applications (AIBA)” at the University of Barcelona. Her main interests are in Machine/Deep learning and Computer Vision and their applications to health. She is an Associate editor in Chief of Pattern Recognition journal (Q1, IP=7.196) and International Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (Q2, IP=3.13). She is a Research Manager of the State Agency of Research (Agencia Estatal de Investigación, AEI) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain. Petia Radeva belongs to the top 2% of the World ranking of scientists with the major impact in the field of TIC according to the citations’ indicators.

AI Programs Coordinator, Computer Vision Center

Meritxell BASSOLAS is the AI Programs Coordinator at the Computer Vision Center. She holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and an MBA and is a coordinator for the Research and Talent Axis within the Catalan AI Strategy (Catalonia.ai) supporting the ELLIS Unit Barcelona and the Post Doctoral program “Ramon Llull”, aimed to attract and retain postdocs experts in AI to join the 33 RD Catalan institutions for a 3-year period.

PhD Dario COTTAFAVA

Interdisciplinary researcher, lecturer in Turin and Barcelona, and social entrepreneur, investigating the impact of hydrogen and alternative fuels on the transport sector.

He is a cofounder of the environmental NGO greenTO and author of scientific publications in the field of circular economy, energy economics and social and environmental accounting. He participated in the Climate-KIC Journey between Cyprus and Bulgaria in 2017 and was a Local Community Manager in the North of Italy in 2018.

Montse GUARDIA GUELL is the co-founder of Big Onion, an IT solutions company. She is the President of the Board of Trustee’s at the Polytechnic University of Cataluña, former President of the ALASTRA Blockchain association, and former Chief Strategy Office of the Mobile World.

Ricard has a large experience in R&I in the field of ICT applied to industrial technologies, with special focus on advanced manufacturing.

Andrea PAINDELLI is a Smart Water Product Expert for the Agbar-Veolia Group, in charge of implementing the company’s digital portfolio for the Iberia/LatAm Market sector. He is an EIT Alumni from the 2020’s “Pioneers Into Practice” programme.

Brendan ROWAN is Managing Consultant – Tech, Policy and Skills at BluSpecs, a digital consultancy. He coordinates the project LEADS – Leading Europe’s Advanced Digital Skills, which is providing the analysis of future Advanced Digital Skills demand in the EU between 2022-2030, identifying the challenges and opportunities in reaching the ambitious targets of the Digital Decade, and supporting the success and impact of the Advanced Digital Skills area of the DIGITAL programme.
