Empowering Deep Tech Talent: A Conversation with Anna Górecka

“Our goal is to equip individuals with the skills and inspiration needed to become innovators.”

Universities play a crucial role in the pursuit of fostering innovation and nurturing deep tech talent. Through several, recent global events, including the Web Summit in Lisbon and Hello Tomorrow in Paris, where networking and visibility are crucial to find other pledgers and learners, we had the chance to meet with Anna Górecka PhD, Head of the Academic Entrepreneurship Incubator at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST), an EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative Pledger. During our conversation, Anna shared her insights and passion for empowering individuals in the deep tech sector.

“From the beginning, we’ve been offering free programmes for deep tech talents. These range from international open innovation training to intensive incubation programmes, and cater to students, PhD students, researchers, or anyone looking upskill in deep tech.”

Through lectures from leading researchers across Europe and hands-on training sessions, WUST aims to develop both entrepreneurial and innovation skills, ultimately empowering participants to start their own businesses or pursue innovative ventures.

One of WUST’s flagship programmes is “Grow Up Tech”, a three-month pre-incubation programme designed to help deep tech talents transform their project ideas into viable business models.

“It’s a journey from idea to business model, providing comprehensive support to participants throughout the program.”

Anna highlighted the intensive nature of the programme, which includes training, mentoring, workshops, and opportunities to pitch ideas to investors.

She also acknowledged that the journey towards innovation requires patience and perseverance, and to be best prepared for a long development cycle, strong networks in the deep tech industry are needed.

Anna expressed her enthusiasm for the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative, which creates visibility and plenty of networking opportunities for Pledgers, and opportunities to join forces to skill and upskill talents in Europe: “It’s a great opportunity to be part of something bigger.”

It’s obvious that Anna’s passion for empowering individuals in the deep tech sector and her dedication to providing accessible education and support is part of a larger commitment to foster innovation and excellence in deep tech through education and training.

To other potential pledgers she advises: “Take the opportunity, seize the advantage, and become a part of this journey.”
