About
The Polytechnic University of Coimbra (IPC) is a public higher education institution stablished in 1979. It comprises six academic units: Coimbra Agriculture School (ESAC), Coimbra Education School (ESEC), Coimbra Health School (ESTeSC), Oliveira do Hospital Management and Technology School (ESTGOH), Coimbra Business School (ISCAC) and Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC).
IPC offers 63 bachelor’s degrees, 47 master’s, 21 professional higher technical courses, and 44 non-degree courses. The institution employs 894 teachers and 418 non-teaching staff, supporting a student body of over 12K. Currently, IPC researchers are integrated into 6 FCT R&D centres hosted in IPC, participating in more than 125 national and EU R&D projects (Horizon, INTERREG, LIFE), with a total investment exceeding 13M€. Their contributions have also led to 12 utility models, 46 national and 12 international patents.
To gain national and international scientific scale and impact, IPC stablished the Applied Research Institute (i2A). This unit fosters, support, and manages applied research activities optimizing IPC´s scientific resources. i2A strengthens applied research, facilitates technology transfer, and bridges the gap between academia, industry, and society to drive innovation in products, processes, and services. i2A coordinates 6 high-tech laboratories, specializing in health, biomechanics, ICT and natural and endogenous resources, aligning with national and regional RIS3 strategies. These labs integrate state-of-the -art scientific equipment and infrastructure with multidisciplinary research teams, reinforcing IPC’s commitment to cutting-edge innovation.
