Data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence
Today’s engineering jobs are diverse and dynamic, reflecting the evolving needs of our world. These jobs often require a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, entrepreneurial and innovation mindset and the ability to adapt to new methods and technologies. This course can be attended by all students of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (mandatory course), other Departments of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (elective course), any students at the University of Sarajevo (free elective course) as well students at the University of Sarajevo through the Erasmus + or any other mobility programmes. Data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence are necessary for engineering students, as they enable the development of intelligent systems that can learn from data, make predictions, optimize processes, make evidence based decisions etc. This course not only provides knowledge in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence but also develops entrepreneurial and innovation mindset thorough practical work and exercises by applying design thinking concept and addressing real life problems. After the course students will be able to make a significant societal and economic impact by applying their knowledge to drive innovation, solve real-world problems, contribute to sustainable growth, and stay competitive in their future engineering careers.

The primary objectives of this course are to acquire knowledge in the field of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, enabling students to apply new and advanced methods in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve practical problems.
Key topics covered in the course include data science principles, big data concepts, and the entire process from data collection to data analysis and decision making. It also includes machine learning and artificial intelligence methods, including methods such as regression, random forests, decision trees, neural networks, support vector machine and clustering.
Through this course students gain programming skills in Python that are needed for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and also students are introduced to other programming languages (R) and software tools (Minitab) that can be used in these fields. Also, students learn linear algebra and statistics that are needed to fully understand and implement data science concepts, and machine learning and artificial intelligence methods.
Through the practical work and exercises students develop entrepreneurial and innovation mindset by analyzing real life problems and by applying deep tech focused design thinking concept.
